SCHOOL BOND ELECTION SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 5th Not since 1969 have the voters of Austin been asked to approve a school bond program. With all the changes that have occurred, the District will go to the voters again on February 5th seeking approval of a $210 million bond program. Four separate issues will be included: (1) construction of new elementary schools; (2) construction of new secondary schools; (3) renovations, additions, and energy conservation measures to improve District facilities; and (4) purchase of land for new facilities. Six new elementaries, two junior highs, and one senior high are to be built in South Austin with the bond money. Schools thoughout the District will be repaired and many will have additions and renovations completed.
I am Gordon Moore. I have been principal of Zilker Elementary since 1973. Our faculty number thirty one this year. As in the past, our student enrollment fluctuates throughout the year with normal enrollment around 465 students. All classrooms at Zilker are being used. In addition, we have one portable which houses two classrooms. Our gifted science class meets in the library, our special reading teacher is set upin the corner of our front hall, the 6th grade band meets on the cafetorium stage and the 6th grade orchestra meets in a classroom while the class is away for P.E. or Music. Zilker will have some renovations ane additions from the bond money.
Passage of the bond program will benefit students throughout the District; however, approval will especially benefit students at Zilker and the rest of South Austin.

Election of Officers and ZNA's future
Be thinking about who you want to lead the Zilker Neighborhood Association and the direction you want it to go in the future. Neighborhood Associations have often been hugged but not loved by our City leaders. It seems that historically they have often courted and seduced us, but didn't respect us the next morning (that being the morning after the election). It looks like we are finally getting the acknowledgement we deserve for our citizenship and earned for paying our taxes. So, now that we are getting noticed, it is up to us to insure respect. Election of officers and the opportunity to volunteer for a Zilker Neighborhood Steering Committee will be part of our January meeting. Be thinking of the things you would like to see happen in our neighborhood and the people who you want to help make it happen.

Agenda 1. Election of Officers - Nominations for the office of president will be taken. The Nominating Committee (Paulette Gravois, Glenna Balch, and Kay Trybus) was formed to find and recommend someone to be the new president of the Zilker Neighborhood Association.
We are pleased to announce our recommendation of Libby Farris for this position. As you may remember, Libby was the ZNews editor for many years. We are thankfUl that such a capable person is willing to serve. Our first order of business will be this nomination and the vote.
ZNA has four Vice-President positions on the Board. Larry Akers, who has served us in various ways for years, has moved out of the neighborhood, leaving a Vice-President opening on the Board. Nominations from the floor will be accepted for Vice-President. Thanks, Larry for your many years of neighborhood commitment.

Electric

I. The Electric Department is inviting public input into a plan to run a transmission line between the Seaholm Substation (North side of Town Lake), and the Salem Walk Substation (near Crockett High School). The purpose of the proposed line is to improve the city power grid and guard against blackouts and/or brownouts. The proposed routes of the line are variations on South Lamar, South 5th, and the railroad right of way.

King of Kinney Strikes Again!!
On April 7, within 24 hours after another Realtor's sign went up, I sold the home at 909 Kinney Avenue and got the seller MORE than her full asking price. On April 12, less than 3 weeks after my sign went up, I sold my own listing of a house and garage apartment at 711 Kinney Avenue for full price. I have just listed the home at 2000 Kinney Avenue and I expect yet another quick and successful sale. My trademark has always been fair pricing and equal treatment--fair to the seller and fair to the buyer. No unkept promises; no exaggerated claims; no foolishness. Your real estate business is too important to be handled lightly, so call Henry Benedict & Associates whenever you have questions about buying or selling houses in our neighborhood. We can provide a free market analysis of your present property or help you understand your position as a potential buyer. We want to be your real estate firm.
